Meet Professor Sage Saunders, a first-degree black belt, distinguished athlete, competitor, and the proud owner of Journey Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Saunders’ journey in Jiu-Jitsu began in childhood, competing since he was seven years old and grappling for nearly his entire life. His competitive spirit has led him to win multiple tournaments, including the IBJJF, AGF, US Grappling, Grappling Industries, and NAGA.

A true family man, Professor Saunders hails from a lineage of Jiu-Jitsu athletes. He has been meticulously trained under the guidance of his father, Professor Alan Merullo, and has honed his skills alongside his sister, black belt Professor Colleen Sorey. This familial bond has imbued him with a deep understanding and respect for the sport.

As a coach, he has led many to victory, mentoring champions in some of the most prestigious tournaments in the United States. His dedication to the art is unparalleled, with countless hours devoted to studying and perfecting the art of Jiu-Jitsu. While his roots are in traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he has evolved his game to be incredibly versatile, mastering both Gi and No-Gi training to excel in the sport.
